Advanced prompt engineering
Role prompting, chain-of-thought and few-shot examples applied to ecommerce work.
Advanced · Advanced · 10 min
Three techniques cover most of what's useful. Role prompting sets the perspective. Few-shot examples set the format and voice. Asking for the reasoning before the answer improves anything involving a judgement call.
Few-shot is the highest-return of the three for storefront copy: two or three examples of your own writing beat any amount of adjectives about tone.
Build prompts you reuse. A prompt you've refined over ten runs is an asset; a prompt you write from scratch each time is a chore.
Steps
- Convert your three best prompts into reusable templates with placeholders.
- Add two of your own copy samples to each as few-shot examples.
- For judgement tasks, ask for the reasoning first, then the output.
- Keep a note of what you changed and whether output improved.
